Scott Richards Contemporary Art is proud to announce The Newest Perspective, the upcoming exhibition of new works by celebrated British painter, Patrick Hughes.
On view from October 16 through November 16, 2024, the exhibition marks a significant milestone in Hughes’ career, inaugurating the artist’s eighty-fifth birthday and his enduring influence on the world of contemporary art.

Patrick Hughes has mastered the fusion of art and illusion, by coining the term reverspective and creating works that redefine our perception of space and reality. His complex, three-dimensional compositions seem to move as the viewer changes position, producing an optical illusion of depth and motion and captivating audiences with their mesmerizing and often disorienting effects.
The exhibition at Scott Richards Contemporary Art introduces a new development in Hughes’ continuous exploration of three-dimensional perspective: Solid Hollows. These three-dimensional, sculptural paintings are similarly crafted in reverse perspective but offer an intriguing opportunity for complex interaction. The Solid Hollows seem to twist and turn before the viewer’s eyes, further pushing the boundaries of visual perception and reinforcing Hughes’ status as a master of perceptual illusion.
