Prototypes, models, and maquettes are integral to artistic production, often serving as small-scale versions of larger projects. By circumventing real-world constraints such as size, cost, and safety, these forms allow for vivid experimentation and the exploration of ideas, while also providing physical, tangible means of communicating concepts. The general public rarely has access to the many stages of ideation and development that artists undertake as part of their creative process. What is typically presented are the objects and ideas that have successfully emerged from this long trajectory – the finished work, so to speak. Yet, the myth of the genius artist producing masterpieces out of thin air obscures the reality of the significant time and labor invested in artistic practice. This group exhibition celebrates the hidden processes that underpin artistic creation.
